Maria Zakharova on the West's reaction to the recognition of the DPR and LPR: they lied, they lie, and they will continue to lie According to the representative of the Foreign Ministry, Western negotiators constantly showed cynicism and indifference towards the inhabitants of the LPR and DPR. “They lied, they lie and they will lie,” said Maria Zakharova about Western leaders
The reaction of Western countries to Russia’s recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR did not come as a surprise, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda radio.< /p>
“But didn’t we know what they said, they say and will say? What, for us it was some kind of revelation? <…> Did we not know how they would react? Of course they knew. The last two months have been extremely revealing— they lied, they lie and they will lie, & mdash; said Zakharova.
“You know, at all these negotiations I sat and listened to them, and I had only one question: it’s impossible to be so cynical— when we talk about our Western partners— speak to the camera from the stands about human rights, about the pricelessness of life, about the problems of women, girls, for example, in Afghanistan, which certainly takes place, about the situation in Myanmar, which is located on another continent, for example, from the USA, from Europe to understand all the intricacies of the problems of Darfur, Sudan, and at the same time remain absolutely insensitive to the situation that is under your nose, on the European continent, in the country that believed and trusted the West, it trusted its future. I'm talking about the people now, I'm not talking about politicians, & mdash; she continued.
Zakharova noted that, as a member of the delegation, she had no right to her own emotions.
“You have no idea how hard it was for all of us to hold back every time we saw those ice cold eyes, those grins and those nods. And you went out and understood that they would again reach out to the microphones to talk about human rights and their certain responsibility in the humanitarian dimension, when a minute ago they didn’t even want to listen to the fact that in Luhansk and Donetsk there are already fresh graves of children who died under shelling, I'm not talking about the generation that was born and grew up in the feeling that the war— this is the norm»,— continued the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She added that the Western partners “didn’t give a damn about children, women, girls, the elderly, the lack of medicine, the lack of houses that were bombed, the impossibility of attending schools, hospitals and generally a normal decent life, although these people [residents Republics of Donbass] are not guilty of anything».
Many Western countries have condemned the recognition of the DNR and LNR. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron also sharply condemned Vladimir Putin's decision to recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR, the German government said following a telephone conversation between the three leaders.
«Everyone agreed that this Russia's unilateral move is a clear violation of the Minsk agreements. Germany, France and the United States sharply condemned the decision of the President of Russia. This step will not go unanswered, — the message says. The German chancellor, the presidents of the United States and France expressed solidarity with Ukraine and “appreciated the cautious reaction” Kiev on the events of Monday, the Cabinet said.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the recognition of the republics of Donbass “further undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, undermines efforts to resolve the conflict and violates the Minsk agreements.”
