Zelensky on recognition of the DPR and LPR: Ukraine is not afraid of anyone and will not give anything The President of Ukraine said that the country would remain within internationally recognized borders, “despite the statements” of Russia. He noted that Moscow's decision could mean its unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation after President Putin's decision to recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR. The broadcast was conducted by the Rada TV channel.
“We are not afraid of anything or anyone. We don't owe anything to anyone. And we will not give anything to anyone,»,— he said.
Zelensky stressed that the borders of Ukraine will remain as recognized by the international community, “despite the statements of the Russian Federation.”
He also noted that Kiev held a meeting of the Council national security and defense of Ukraine, within which Russia's actions were unequivocally assessed as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state. “Recognition of the independence of the occupied regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions may mean Russia's unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements,” — Zelensky said.
The President of Ukraine also said that by decisions taken on Monday, Russia “legalized the presence of its troops, which have actually been in the occupied areas of Donbass since 2014.” .
Ukraine initiated an emergency Normandy Four summit, as well as a special OSCE meeting, Zelensky added.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Kiev sent to the UN Security Council a request for an emergency meeting due to Russia's recognition of the DNR and LNR. France and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell came up with the same initiative.
Moscow's decision has already been condemned by the West, including the EU, NATO, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the UK and a number of other countries.
